Love/hate relationship

It’s been awhile since I posted because I spent a long time writing a great post that was lost.  It was about this article on how education is so last century.  Industrial model, behind the times, need choice, students will change jobs 10 times, etc.   I had tons of intriguing comments and wonderful sayings, like, “You make time for what you think’s important,” and “Are we here to do what’s right for kids, or what’s easy?”  When I went to post, the screen went blank, and I had nothing left.  I’ve been depressed.   So, intuit everything I was going to say on how education needs to change.  Read the article.  Discuss among yourselves.

I got another dot!

I love seeing new dots on my ClustrMap.  My husband and I compete: “I got another dot in India!”   “I got another dot in Europe…I think it’s France…does that look like France to you?”   It’s neat to realize that people around the world are reading what you have to say.  But also in a way I feel like I’m back in high school, and it’s a popularity contest.  (I have dots!  I’m popular!)  My husband also has a “How much is my blog worth?” counter on his blog.  I don’t get that.  I think I would be depressed because it would be so low.  In reality I don’t really care what my blog might be worth according to some random parameters set by the company pushing its widget.  And even though I have a site meter to show me how many people visit my blog, it’s the dots that matter the most.  It’s so totally awesome (80’s girl) that people around the world share the same ideas in education and are willing to read a blog from across the ocean and even sometimes comment on it.  I think my next goal will be to find blogs from around the world and keep tabs on them.  Even though I love my peeps here in the good ol’ USA, it’s the differences and similarities I find in education from around the world that excites me.  So, if you know a radical blog from outside the US, please send it to me.  (I’m working on getting dots in other parts of Asia.)
